Early Life:

Alesha Anjanette Dixon was born on October 7th, 1978, and was raised by a Jamaican father named Melvin and an English mother in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, England. Alesha Harris was raised by her mother Beverly Harris, a former hairdresser, and her six half-siblings.

Dixon’s parents split when she was just 4 years old, and her father moved away. When Alesha was 10 years old, her mother Beverly experienced domestic abuse. After nearly 21 years, she finally discussed this subject out loud in 2010. Dixon even produced a documentary for the BBC about the subject of domestic violence called “Don’t Hit My Mum,” which was based on her early life experiences.

She received her early schooling at Monk’s Walk School in Hertfordshire, where she later obtained a sports diploma. Dixon’s initial career goal at Loughborough University was to become a PE teacher, and her first position was with the gaming company Ladbrokes.

Nevertheless, she made the decision to give her entire attention to singing and dancing after being contacted by a talent scout from a London-based musical firm. Later, as she was riding a train back to her house, another scout approached her about starting a music group.

Dixon’s music career began in 1999 after she and Sabrina Washington enrolled at a dance studio in Fulham, southwest London, where Dixon first met Washington. The two girls created a group named Mis-Teeq, which later evolved into a trio after Su-Elise Nash joined.

They attracted labels’ notice right away, and before another member, Zena McNally, joined the well-known UK garage/R&B girl combo, Mis-Teeq, they signed a deal with Telstar Records.

She was contacted by the boy band Damage in late 2000 to appear in their song Rumors, which reached number 22 on the UK Singles Chart.

The band Mis-Teeq released their debut single, Why, in 2001. A remix of the song was later created and peaked at #8 on the charts. The group kept putting out music, and one of their most popular songs was All I Want, which peaked at number two on the charts.

Lickin’ on Both Sides, Dixon and the band Mis-debut Teeq’s album, was released on October 27th, 2001. One Night Stand, B with Me, and Roll-On/This Is How We Do It are some of the songs on the album. The band had the opportunity to perform the following year and was nominated for a BRIT Award at Earls Court. They also went on to win the MOBO Award for Best Garage Act.

Following the album’s commercial success, Mis-Teeq issued Eye Candy, their follow-up album, in 2003. It has songs like Scandalous, Style, and Can’t Get It Back. The trio began a US tour the following year and released Scandalous, the lead single off their American debut album Mis-Teeq. Before disbanding in 2005, the band also recorded the song Shoo Shoo Baby for the movie Valiant.

Solo Career:

Dixon signed a three-album, £500,000 deal with the record company Polydor Records in 2005 as a solo artist. Her solo debut album, Fired Up, which consists of 15 tracks, was released on February 20, 2006. To record the album, she collaborated with numerous producers, including Paul Epworth, Johnny Douglas, Brian Higgins, Estelle Richard X, and Xenomania.

In July of same year, she released Superficial, her debut solo song. Later, she made the decision to make Lipstick the first single from her album. Midway through 2006, the song was published, and it peaked at number 14 on the UK Single Charts. After releasing her second song, Knockdown, Dixon quit the Polydor Records label. She went on to release The Alesha Show (2008), The Entertainer (2010), and Do It for Love as her subsequent albums (2015).

Throughout her career, Alesha Dixon appeared in movies and television series in addition to music. From 2001 to 2003, she had a guest appearance on the British music television programme Top of the Pops. She then appeared in a TMI and The Saturday Show episode. She rose to prominence in 2012 after serving as a judge on Britain’s Got Talent, a well-known talent competition. The X Factor (2017), Britain and Ireland’s Next Top Model (2012), and RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, among others, all had Judge Dixon as a guest (2021).
